FAQS

To help you fully understand our College Dreamer scholarships, please read our FAQ's below before submitting the Scholarship Request Form.

+ Who is eligible for a scholarship?

Scholarships are only available to Dreamer students who were enrolled in our program as outlined below.

Class 9: Third graders in 2003 at Woodlawn Elementary School in Portland, OR whose anticipated high school graduation date was June of 2013. Scholarships are available through June 30, 2023.

Class 10: Third graders in 2007 at Rigler Elementary School in Portland, OR whose anticipated high school graduation date was June of 2017. Scholarships are available through June 30, 2027.

+ How much money do I get each Term/ Semester?

If you are a full-time student at a college that goes by terms, you will typically receive $666.67 per term for three terms. (Part-time students at a college that goes by terms will generally receive $55.50 per credit hour.) If you are a full-time student at a school that goes by semesters, you will typically receive $1,000 per semester for two semesters. (Part-time students at a college that goes by semesters can anticipate receiving $83.30 per credit hour.)

+ Does it matter if I am a full-time or part-time student?

Dreamers can access the full scholarship amount per term/semester if they are full-time students (12 or more credit hours). Dreamers can still access their scholarship funds even if they are less than full-time but the scholarship amount will be based on credit hours.

+ Can my scholarship be put towards summer courses?

Yes, the scholarship can be disbursed evenly through all four terms (or three semesters).

+ Can I only use my scholarship towards the cost of tuition?

The Dreamer scholarship is intended for tuition but can be used towards textbooks and fees.

+ What if I need only a portion of my scholarship?

Some students may receive enough grants or scholarships to cover most of their tuition and expenses and may want to save their Dreamer scholarship funds for a different year. If so, please indicate this in the "Additional Information" box so we can be aware of why you are not accessing the full amount of your funds.

+ How does my scholarship get paid out?

Once we receive all of your paperwork we will request that a check be sent directly to your college or university. Checks typically go out once a week, but it can take two to three weeks before the funds are applied to your account.

+ Why do you need a copy of my grades from the last term/semester?

You will only continue to receive your scholarship each term if you successfully complete all attempted credits with a C or better and a 2.0 GPA. Failure to do so can result in probation and then suspension of your scholarship. Your grades will determine your eligibility.

+ Why do you need a copy of my course schedule?

This shows us that you have been accepted and have enrolled for the current term. It also allows us to determine your payment amount based on your enrollment as a full or part-time student.

+ Where do I send my paperwork and direct questions?

Email Laura Miranda at lauram@greater-than.org and include your attachments or mail or fax your documents to our main office.
